Wordful Wednesday

I am a firm believer that you're never too old to have fun! Gosh if my baby brothers lived close to me we would have a blast! I cherish the moments I get to spend with my brothers and I'm sure my mom loves to hear her grown kids acting like they are 10 again. Haha!!!! This picture was actually taken in June of 2008, when I flew to Texas to attend my brother's high school graduation. Man I wish we were closer than California and Texas (making a sad face.)The funny thing about this picture is that we are in order...oldest to youngest. YES YES...ugh...I am the oldest in the picture. However, we do have an older brother--so ha!

This week's Wordful Wednesday hosted by Angie at:

Who are they?

I signed up for a freebie website called BabyToBee thinking I would find another great source for free baby items, but instead I found a pain in my a**! I submitted the sign up form on Friday only to receiving calls on Sunday from +31 43154870 on my cellphone. I didn't answer because I thought it was an international call/scam! Well the number called my phone 5 times on Sunday alone SOOOO I decided to google the number. I found a number of people complaining to have received numerous calls from this number as well. So who does the number belong to? Hmm...what a shocker...Baby To Bee! I opted for emails from this company NOT calls up to 5 times a day. They finally stopped when I sent them an email asking 'Why the hell they are calling me 5 times a day?' (I asked nicely. Haha) Anyway, after my email I have not received a call from them. Thank GOD!
So the morale of this story is to avoid signing up with companies that require your phone number! I learned that it can be a real pain! I have been told by other people that they did not encounter this problem with Baby To Bee, so I guess I was the lucky one. I regret signing up with them because quite honestly they don't have any great freebies listed. ::sigh:: Lesson learned!

Tasty Tuesday

This past weekend, my hubby wanted to try this recipe that he seen on Allrecipes.com. It was for Baked Potato Soup and it was so good. You will get full off of 1 bowl!

Ingredients:
3 bacon strips, diced
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon pepper 3 cups chicken broth
2 large baked potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 cup half-and-half cream
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Shredded Cheddar cheese
Minced fresh parsley

Directions:
1. In a large saucepan, cook bacon until crisp. Drain, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings. Set bacon aside. Saute onion and garlic in the drippings until tender. Stir in flour, salt, basil and pepper; mix well. Gradually add broth. Bring to boil; boil and stir for 2 minutes. Add the potatoes, cream and hot pepper sauce; heat through but do not boil. Garnish with bacon, cheese and parsley.

NOTE

Hi Ladies! I just want to make you aware of a problem I have been having. Yesterday I noticed that I am unable to leave comments on blogs that have a "pop up" word verfication. When I try to leave a comment, the pop up word verification says loading... and never actually loads. I have tried using IE and FF but still no luck. So if you leave a comment on our site then I will try to comment back on yours but if I can't then I will leave a comment under yours (on our site.)

**I don't know if the same thing is happening to my mom. Hmmm is this happening to anyone else?**

The Love Ya Award

The Love Ya Award

These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

I received this award from Lauren@4 Baby and Mom. It has taken me some time to pass this award...Sorry! Well, not too long ago I discovered 4 Baby and Mom via Twitter and I'm so happy that I did! Lauren has great giveaways going on, as well as great reviews! Thank you for sending me this award and thank you for the What Squeaky Shoes giveaway :)

Now it's my turn to pass it on so here's who I'm sending The Love Ya Award to:

  • The Copper Brick Road-Rebecca is always posting great deals, reviews, stories & etc. She seems like a very busy woman but always finds time to interact with her followers. I admire your ability to balance everything.
  • Mom of 2 Boys, Wife of 1-I just became a follower of Lisa's blog but have been a follower of hers on twitter. She has been very sweet to us. Thank you for checking up on us!
  • Frugal Rhode Island Mama-Karen has a great blog that is filled with info & freebies to help her readers.
  • Berry Sweet Picks-I follow Pauline on Twitter. Not too long ago I was feeling worried and she took the time to send me (virtual) hugs. Thank you!
  • Adventures in Babywearing-Stephanie has a great blog that is very personal. She shares wonderful pictures and videos of her family as well as informative posts on other things. (I love your recent pictures of your little girl!)
.......NEED 3 More....Still deciding....Hmmm.......

Tip-a-licious Thursday

Have you ever asked yourself, how do I make my produce last as long as possible? It seems to go bad in a few days if I don’t use it quickly enough.
Answer: Keeping produce fresh can be the cause of a lot of stress in the kitchen. The first step to cutting down on the amount of overripe fruit and mushy vegetables you toss in the trash is making sure you buy only what you know you can eat for a few days.
At home, proper storage is the key. Some foods should be kept apart from others because they release ethylene, a natural gas that can cause items near them to become spotted or soft. The following are some common ethylene-producing fruits and vegetables: apricots, avocados, bananas, cantaloupes, honeydew melons, kiwis, mangoes, nectarines, papayas, peaches, pears, plums, and tomatoes. Fruits and vegetables that are sensitive to the effects of ethylene include: apples, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, eggplants, green beans, lettuces and other greens, potatoes, summer squash, and watermelons.

Here’s how to keep everyday fruits and vegetables fresh. Note: Life span is measured from the day you bring the produce home.

Arugula To store: Put the leaves in a plastic bag (if they aren't already in one) and refrigerate. Life span: 2 days.

Avocados To store: To ripen avocados, place them on a countertop at room temperature. Extend the life of a ripe one by putting it in the refrigerator, unbagged. After a few days, it will shrivel, which means it's time to make guacamole. Life span: 5 to 7 days.

Bananas To store: Keep them on a countertop, unbagged, to ripen at room temperature. Don't refrigerate an unripe banana — the cold causes the skin to turn brown and prevents the fruit from ripening properly. Life span: 3 to 5 days.

Bell Peppers To store: Store, unwashed, in a resealable plastic bag in the crisper. Life span: Up to 1 week.

Blueberries To store: Dry, unwashed blueberries can be kept in their plastic container or a resealable plastic bag. Keep them in the back of the refrigerator. Life span: 10 days.

CabbageTo store: Wrap the entire head in plastic wrap and refrigerate.Life span: Up to 2 weeks.

Carrots To store: Remove any greens, then place the carrots in a resealable plastic bag in the crisper.Life span: 2 to 4 weeks.

Cauliflower To store: Cover the head with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Life span: 1 week.

Grapes To store: Keep in a resealable plastic bag in the back of the refrigerator. If you wash grapes before storing, they will spoil in about a week. Life span: 2 to 3 weeks.

Lemons and Limes To store: Keep them unbagged on the refrigerator door, but let them sit at room temperature for a few hours before using. If you use limes often, store them on a countertop. Life span: 10 days to 3 weeks refrigerated; up to 1 week at room temperature.

Lettuce To store: Wrap lettuce in damp paper towels and seal in a plastic bag. Put bagged lettuce in the crisper, which will keep it moist and cold. Life span: 7 to 10 days.

Pears To store: To ripen, store in a paper bag on a countertop at room temperature for 2 to 5 days. To preserve a ripe pear for 2 to 3 days, keep it in the refrigerator, unbagged. Life span: 2 to 5 days.

Raspberries To store: Keep raspberries, unwashed, in their plastic container. Or, if you have room in the refrigerator, spread them in a single layer in a covered shallow container. Life span: 2 days.

Scallions To store: Keep in the crisper, unwashed, in a plastic bag. Life span: 1 week.

Spinach To store: Place in a plastic bag (if it didn't come in one) and refrigerate. Life span: 3 days.

Strawberries To store: Store in the refrigerator, unwashed, in their plastic container. If the berries come in a cardboard carton, put them in a plastic bag before storing. Don't wash them or remove the hulls until you're ready to eat the berries. Life span: 3 to 4 days.

Sweet Potatoes To store: Keep in a cool, dark, dry place. Life span: 2 to 4 weeks.

Tomatoes To store: Tomatoes should be stored at room temperature on a countertop, stem-side up. Make sure they're out of direct sunlight, and never put them in the refrigerator, which will ruin the flavor and the texture. Life span: 2 to 5 day

When you cut up your fruit, and are waiting to add it to a salad, jello, pie, etc., soak it either in a little water with some lemon juice, or a couple of crushed Vitamin C tablets.

If you are serving your fruit fresh, toss it lightly in lemon juice. If you are serving it cut in half, brush the surface with a pastry brush dipped in lemon juice.

Wordful Wednesday

Do you ever wonder where the time has went? You look at your children and wonder 'how the heck did you grow up so fast?!' My daughter Kanani (on the left) is now 9 and my son Jae'Sun (right) is now 2. These two pictures are my favorite of them and its so bittersweet to look at them. ::sigh::

Happy V-Day!

Hi Ladies! We just wanted to say Happy Valentine's Day. Hope you have a great day & weekend! ♥♡♥♡

Tip-a-licious Thursday

Hi ladies! I want to ask you some questions regarding your boobs..Hehe..Did I get your attention?! Well, how many of you are currently breastfeeding? How many of you ever heard of donating breastmilk?
Tonight as I was viewing random Youtube videos via my iPhone, I found a clip of Salma Hayek breastfeeding a African baby.

Honestly my first reaction was 'Hmm that's akward.' I guess because as a mother I've never considered breastfeeding a child that was not mine. A blogger on EW.com, the web site for Entertainment Weekly, declared the video clip winner of the "biggest eyebrow-raiser award" and called Hayek cool "because her left breast has now done more for humanity in a few minutes than I've done in roughly my life."
After researching on the net I found a great site called International Breast Milk Project (IBMP). Their mission is to create awareness of the need for donor human milk, mobilize donors and provide donor human milk to infants in need.

How do I become a donor?
What are the steps?
  • Online Application
In order to be eligible to donate your breast milk, you must first complete an online interview. The application includes about 45 questions, similar to questions you answer prior to donating blood. It will take about 10 minutes. Once your application is processed, you will receive an email from our milk bank with detailed information on next steps. You can expect to hear back within 1 week of submitting your online application.
  • Donor testing
For your convenience, IBMP bank arranges a blood test at your home (How easy is that?!). The blood test is performed by a national laboratory, (ExamOne) and is paid for by their sponsors. At the same time, you will be asked to provide a cheek swab to create a DNA match for the milk. This ensures that only milk from tested donors enters the system. Again you will be notified via email of your qualification.
  • IBMP ships a cooler directly to you
Once you are qualified, you will receive email notification and information on next steps. We will ship specially designed containers with gel packs to your home, with detailed instructions on how to pack and ship the milk back.
  • Pack your milk in coolers
When ready, you will place the frozen milk and the gel packs into the container along with the prepaid priority shipping label.
  • FedEx picks up milk
One call to FedEx and your milk is on its way! FedEx will come to your doorstep to collect the containers for overnight delivery to our bank. The shipping is paid for by THEIR sponsor.
**Note: Each qualified donor has the option of receiving a free hospital-grade electric double pump.**
What are other ways I can get involved?
Find more information on how you can get involved on the IBMP website.

Even though I can not see myself doing what Salma Hayek did, I can still help babies in need. The whole donation process is easy and leaves you with NO excuses NOT to do it. I plan on doing this in October when my baby is born unless I do not produce enough.
C'mon ladies get out there and help!

♥Give Milk. Give Life. Give Hope.

Look What I Got in the Mail!

On 1/21/09 I posted a link to get a free glucose monitor. Well I got it today and wanted to let you ladies know what it looks like and comes with. There is a glucose monitor which also comes with accessories in the box, there is also skins for the monitor, & extra test strips...50 to be exact. Although I do not have diabetes, I plan on giving this monitor to someone who does. I will post the link again later when I get on my computer. If it's still valid--USE it! There are plenty of people who have diabetes who would l♥ve a FREE monitor.

**UPDATE: This offer is now expired. Sorry!**

Wordful Wednesday

We have two English Bulldogs, Molly and Chester. This is Chester and we've had him since he was a baby. Like most Bulldogs he is so stubborn. Don't think of asking him to do anything unless you have a treat to give him, otherwise forget it. Once I took him for a walk and we got just a few houses down from ours, Chester stopped and refused to go any further. Yes, I had to carry him home. Guess we know who the BOSS is. Just look at that face isn't he sooooo cute...........

Tasty Tuesday

My Tasty Tuesday recipe for today s a cracker spread made with cream cheese, now this one is soooo soooo easy and taste great. Enjoy and have a Frugalicious Day.................

Cream Cheese Spread

2-Pkg. softened Cream Cheese
1-Bunch finely cut Green Onions
1-Pkg. finely cut Pastrami (I use the Buddin Brand, it's very thin)

Basically you just mix the above ingredients, just make sure you chop up the onions and pastrami in very small pieces. Then just spread over Ritz crackers. I know it seems so basic but believe me it is wonderful.

Special Thanks To My Baby

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to take this time to say THANK YOU to my beautiful daughter. She has been great, she held down the fort while I was sick. I've had the flu and have been in bed all week, I didn't even attempt to post or even go to CVS (YIKES , you know I'm sick when that happens).
I would encourage all of you to see your doctor and ask about the flu shot. I wish I would have had one because this flu bug really got the best of me. I'm still trying to get over it but I do feel a little better or at least right now I do.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.....................

Tip-a-licious Thursday

Hi everyone!
Do you ever wish there was an easy way to earn a little money?
I know everyone has heard of online surveys, but can you trust them? My answer is YES...well some of them. I encourage you to sign up for the following:
  1. YouData-You provide some information on exercise habits, family size, etc. and then you are paid to view online advertising. They will send your payment to a Paypal account. (I usually wait until I have a few dollars then transfer it to my bank account.) I have received about $5 from YouData.

  2. SurveySpot-Set up your free account and have unlimited access take as many surveys as you want. There is no commitment you can stop participating at any time. SurveySpot sends me anywhere between 2-3 surveys per day. You can earn cash & rewards! Win up to $25,000 in their quarterly sweepstakes. You can also earn up to $15 for each completed survey. I have actually received (2) $10 dollar checks from them :)

  3. PineCone Research- is an exclusive online survey panel that acquires new members via an invitation-only process. (Click on the title and it should take you to the sign up form. Let me know if it works.) They will notify you by email of upcoming product surveys.
In your email you will be provided with a password which will enable you to access the survey at a designated website. They will pay for completed product evaluation surveys, product evaluations average 15-20 minutes to complete. The typical reward for a completed survey is $3.00. Occasionally they may ship you a product to test. PineCone has just recently made it easier for members to receive their payments via Paypal! Yippie...no more waiting for a check!

Here is a picture of 2 checks I have received:

There are plenty of paid survey sites out there, however, please be cautious! Never pay to join a survey site because chances are it is a scam. Also, DO NOT believe promises of a high pay out because the truth is - you will not get rich doing online surveys. You can make some extra money per month doing surveys but I wouldn't count on it to replace your job. Besides that----Have fun making easy money! If I have helped you in anyway, please leave a comment.

Wordful Wednesday

I see so many people participate in this and I thought I would give it a try...Well I thought it would be fun to post a picture of my mother and I from way back in the days. My mother will probably hate it when she sees it.
I would like all of you to know that my mother and I are super close and we always have been (I guess that's what happens when you're the only girl). It's crazy how fast time goes by! Now being a mom myself, I understand how fast kids grow :( However, I will always be my mother's baby. And no matter what, my babies will always be mine.

Tasty Tuesday 2/3

Back again for another Tasty Tuesday This one is an easy one, I don't know what to call it. I usually just call it Italian Chicken Pasta Salad.

1- Package Pasta (I use the Wacky Noodles)
1- Cut Green Pepper
1- Cut Cucumber
1- Cut Tomato
1- Bottle Lite Italian Dressing
Cooked Chicken (cut into small pieces)

Boil pasta, once cooked, drain and add veggies and cut chicken (you can add any other veggies if you like). Stir in dressing (just add enough so it is not dry, I use most of the bottle) and there you have it. Quick, easy, low fat, tasty and oh so FRUGALICIOUS.
