Fitness Friday

Gosh is it really Friday already?! Well I spent most of this week sleeping & dreading even getting out of bed. I will be 31 weeks pregnant tomorrow & boy do I feel it! I have found it easier to stick to my weight training than EA Sports Active. However, instead of doing the 30 day Challenge I have been (sometimes) doing the set workout routines that match my target area in my weight training schedule (To see my schedule click here). For example: On Wednesday my target area was Shoulders/Triceps/Abs, so I did an upper body workout on EA Sports along with my weight training.

My eating habits have been ok. Honestly I'm too tired to even care about what I eat! If I feel like eating ice cream...I'll eat it BUT I do try to limit the amount. That's good right? Haha. The closer I get to my due date the less motivated I am. I would love to do EA Sports Active everyday but it's just not possible while pregnant. :(

EA Sports Active better watch out for me in October! Once my baby is born (and I get the ok from my midwife) I will be working out faithfully! My motivation will be to lose all my baby weight in time for the commissioning of my husband's ship!

Tip-a-licious Thursday

Have you ever heard of Homecoming Mums?
We all know everything's bigger in Texas. Leave it to someone here to come up with these elaborate corsages known as homecoming mums. I had never heard of these until my sons were in high school.

My son told me he needed to buy a mum for his girlfriend. Okay, I'm thinking we needed to go to the florist and buy a flower. HAHA! He took me to this place that specializes in "Mums". Needless to say I was quite surprised that anyone would actually wear that thing and the fact that it had to be big, frilly, and have lots of embellishments. I actually seen someone wearing one and the bottom of the mum was about to her knee. REALLY! We must of stayed in there for an hour just trying to pick out the accessories to add to it. So many options to choose from. When we finally had everything picked out, we gave our order to the nice lady and she gave me a nice total.

Months later I was walking around Hobby Lobby and noticed some ribbons, I thought to myself 'Hey I can make these.' So that's what I did, I bought all the stuff to make my own mum. You see the Mums aren't just for Homecoming, they can be used for Birthdays, graduations, Baby showers etc.. I made my daughter one for her Baby shower and I added straight pins on it. You may be wondering STRAIGHT PINS--why? Well so her guest could pin money on her Mum.

Actually I really sent it to her as a joke, because her and I never could understand why anyone would wear that huge thing. Now that I have been here for a while I guess I've grown accustomed to them. I've since improved my Mum skills but thought I'd share this picture of the one I sent my daughter. You can find the instructions online but keep in mind that they are just general instructions. You need to add your own touches to it, so get creative!

Wordful Wednesday

I am finally almost done with my 3rd pregnancy...I'm currently 30 weeks & 4 days! I feel so big so I decided to compare pictures of me during my 2nd pregnancy & my 3rd. It's obvious that I was bigger my 2nd pregnancy!!! Compare the 2 pictures below (the 1st one is of me in 2006 at 31 weeks & the 2nd is of me this week at 30 weeks).

Ahhhh now I feel better about my appearance. LOL.

This week's Wordful Wednesday hosted by Angie at:

Tasty Tuesday

Today on the menu is Stuffed Jalapenos. Quick, easy and very tasty. I love
Jalapenos so this is a treat for me. If you can't eat them because they are too hot, you can boil them a little longer. The longer you boil the jalapenos the milder they become, the only problem is they won't be as firm but just as tasty.

**UPDATE** This was a tip I just received from Bonnie in California: She says adds Cilantro to her stuffed jalapenos. I'm going to have to try that it sounds great. Thanks for the tip Bonnie

Stuffed Jalapenos

Ingredients:
20-25 Medium size Jalapenos
1-Package Cream Cheese
3-Cups of Shredded Cheddar Cheese or you can you the canned Nacho Cheese (This is what I use)
Bacon Bits

Cut Jalapenos in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Boil for about 5-8 minutes. drain, rinse and set aside. In a small bowl mix Cream cheese and Cheddar until smooth. Spoon cheese mixture into jalapenos and sprinkle with bacon bits. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for about 5-10 minutes.

Trees, Shrubs, and Plants "Oh My"

It's all about the "F". Free that is, what did you think I am talking about?? I found this great site to get free Trees, shrubs, and plants. There are millions of overstock healthy plants that are unsold and are destroyed. This is an excellent site, they find the overstock product and have them packaged at sheltered workshops. For those of you that are not aware of what these are, they are workshops in which workers with disabilities find work. My aunt Nellie works at one and she absolutely loves going to work. She has worked there for many years, she feels good about earning her own money. So I would like to say Thank You to free trees and plants for helping these workshops.

Every plant is good or better than those advertised in those expensive catalogs. They will send you any plant you request for free you just pay for shipping. Where else can you get a Crape Myrtle or a Rose Bud Tree for $7.95. It is a first reserved, first served basis, so hurry and get yours. This is a win win for all, the plants aren't destroyed, we can get them for FREE and best of all it provides employment for workers with disabilities. Visit them @ http://www.freetreesandplants.com/

Trix Swirls Cereal Review & Giveaway (Closed)

This week the kids & I had the opportunity to try out the new Trix Swirls cereal! Seeing as we are huge cereal fans, of course it was a hit in our house. Trix Swirls combines two mouthwatering fruity colors into every fun puff that will satisfy kids' taste buds and spark their creativity! A good source of calcium and vitamin D, the Trix Rabbit won't be the only one who can't resist these fruity combos, which include lemony green, berry berry blue, and rasporangey orange!
Oh my I can see why that silly rabbit goes crazy for this cereal! :)

MyBlogSpark
sent my crazy kids a Trix Swirls Creative Kid gift basket that included a sample of the product along with a colorful apron, a set of watercolor pencils, watercolor paints, brushes, a sketchbook, and an art supply box. My kids loved all the items so much that they wanted to paint as soon as they seen the stuff. Check out their artwork:

Wordful Wednesday

Here is my beautiful daughter Kanani in her sarong. Her wonderful teacher (Mrs. Peji) taught the class a Tahitian Dance called Hei Tiare, that they performed for the school on Monday. I'm so proud of my baby!

Here is her performance -- My baby is in the back row at the end by tree! Sorry for the low volume (teacher didn't have a microphone).

Tasty Tuesday

Here's a nice refreshing dish. My mom gave me this recipe.
Today on the menu is Cashew Chicken Pasta Salad.

Ingredients:

1- Package Spiral Pasta (16 oz)
4- Cups of Cooked Chicken (cut into cubes)
1 1/2 Cup Sliced Celery
1- Can of Pineapple (20 oz) crushed, drained
3/4- Cup Sliced Green Onion
1- Cup Seedless green Grapes
1- Cup Seedless Red Grapes
1- Package Dries Cranberries
1- Cup Ranch Dressing
3/4- Cup Mayo
2- Cup Cashews

Cook the pasta according to package. While this is cooking in a large bowl combine chicken, pineapple, celery, onions, grapes and cranberries. Drain the pasta and rinse. Add pasta to chicken mixture.
In a small bowl add ranch and mayo, mix well. Pour over chicken mixture and toss well. Cover
and refrigerate for about an hour. Prior to serving stir in cashews.

CVS on a Ten Dollar Budget

This week CVS has some BTS (Back to School) items that I wanted to get. I didn't need or want much more, well I did pick up a couple more items but nothing much. You can do this in several transactions to keep your OOP lower or buy all together if you have ECB you can rollover. Really I had done so much shopping over the weekend, I was just shopped out. I rolled and rolled and rolled my $10 Kroger GC over so many times, everyone is going to be bouncing off the walls because we have so many AMP Energy drinks. Read Fridays post to check out a small sample of what I bought. I wanted to see how many times I could do it, it's endless - NO LIMIT. I had to finally give in.

Amp Energy Drink Deal at Krogers

My husband and sons all love Energy Drinks, so today I decided to buy the ten and take advantage of the sale. I heard that if you buy ten you will receive a coupon for a $10 Kroger gift card, so I wanted to see if it was true as I didn't see it in the ad. Well as you can see it worked, so I wanted to see how many times it would let me roll it over. I was able to do it 4 times and still have a $10 gift card left.

Here's the breakdown

10 AMP @ $1.49 ea
=$14.90
-$5 WYB 10
=$9.90 + tax .79
=$10.79 OOP
Earned $10 Kroger Gift Card

Then roll it over and just pay the tax each time.

Fitness Friday

I going to be honest with all of you...yes, I have been slacking off with working out BUT for valid reasons:
1) I had cramping & discomfort, so I consulted my Midwife! She gave me the okay to start working out again :)
2) My daughter caught (gulp) head lice. Luckily she was the only one infected in our house.
3) My husband's ship finally set sail & I had to adjust to no phone calls & very few emails. :(

So anyway, after my appt on 7/8/09 I was in such a great mood because I had learned that I only gained 1 pound since my previous appt (6 week prior). However, that was short lived when I received a voicemail from the school nurse who informed me that I needed to pick my child up because she had head lice....Can we say ewww?! I know I went overboard by completely disinfecting my home by washing EVERYTHING & vacuuming EVERYDAY! The whole disinfecting fiasco definitely cut into my workout time because by the time I was done with doing my daily chores, I was exhausted & an emotional wreck. So now that all of that is over (thank god) I am now working out again.

My diet has been poor due to the fact that I have been completely exhausted & eating "bad" is easy. LOL. I am trying to get back on the ball, so bear with me. I had way too many rest days in my 30 Day Challenge - soooo I had to start over. To avoid any strain that might cause cramping I have decided to decrease the intensity to low. Another change I have made is to add light weight training using the following schedule:

Weeks 1-3
Do 3 sets of 10-12 Reps
Monday-Back/Hamstrings/Calves
Tuesday-Cardio
Wednesday-Shoulders/Triceps/Abs
Thursday-Quadriceps/Glutes/Calves
Friday-Active Rest
Saturday-Chest/Biceps/Abs
Sunday-Cardio
