Tip-a-licious Thursday

Tired of buying dishcloths and sponges/scrubbers? If so, then maybe you should consider making your own. Trust me when I say -- YOU CAN DO IT! I am a newbie at crocheting. I actually learned to read patterns by watching YouTube videos. Just the other day, I decided to make my fantastic grandma a dishcloth as a thank you for sending me a homemade dish scrubber (both pictured above). My dishcloth is made out of 100% cotton yarn, so it is super absorbent and can easily be washed. I bought the yarn for $2.49 and it can make roughly two dishcloths depending on the size/design. I plan on buying my yarn elsewhere to cut costs a little more. My granny, on the other hand, made her scrubbers out of a wool fabric that she bought for $0.99 a yard and it can make roughly 4 scrubbers. FRUGAL! I'm not quite sure how she made it but it does work fabulously!

Making your own dishcloths/sponges does take a little time, however, it saves you money + you can make them to match your decor. I actually love my new hobby because I can easily take my projects with me wherever I go or I  can just do it as I watch tv. Give it a try!

There are plenty of sites that provide free patterns and tutorials. Here are a few that I have used:
Happy Crocheting!

Wordful Wednesday

I hate when I forget to schedule posts! Anyway, I wanted to share a few photos from our crazy Black Friday shopping. If you follow us on Facebook, then you may have seen them already. For those of you that don't follow us (yet), here are the photos of our frugal finds:

Can you believe that all these items should have cost us around $1000? Better yet, can you believe that all this stuff only cost us about $20? Crazy, huh?! By no means was this an easy thing to do! My mom and I spent all night/early morning shopping at several Walgreens stores plus a few other places. By the time we were done, we had spent nearly 30+ hours awake. Haha. It was so much fun! Even if it wasn't Black Friday, my  mom & I still would have had a blast. We always have fun together. :)

♥ you mom!

Tasty Tuesday

Wow, it's almost Thanksgiving! I'm so excited to be spending time with my family. Tomorrow I have to bake a couple pies, so I figured I would share my favorite pie recipe - Sweet Potato Praline Pie.
I do not claim this recipe as my own! I bake this pie every Thanksgiving but have no clue where I found this recipe. I tried it out many years ago, loved it, and saved in my recipe book.

15.5 oz. can of mashed sweet potatoes
14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
2 eggs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons whipping cream
1 unbaked pastry shell

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In large bowl, combine sweet potatoes, condensed milk, eggs, spices, and salt. Beat at medium speed until smooth.
  3. Pour mixture into unbaked pastry shell. Place in oven for 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  4. Allow to cool. Once cool, sprinkle chopped pecans on top of pie and set aside.
Praline Topping:
  1. In small saucepan, combine brown sugar and whipping cream  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
  2. Let cool slightly, then spoon over pie.

Your Santa Story - Review & Giveaway

Last Christmas, my children were delighted to see the special treat that Santa left behind. No, it wasn't the presents, it was a DVD with a special message from him! In the video, Santa proceeded to speak to each child individually - encouraging my oldest to keep her grades up so that she can be a veterinarian, congratulating my son on learning his shapes and colors, and praising my youngest for being a great little helper. It was a magical moment and the look on their little faces was PRICELESS!

Forget the letters from Santa that many of us remember receiving as kids. Let me introduce you to - Your Santa Story. Your Santa Story is a customized, family-specific DVD that will feature an authentic Santa Claus, who will share a story that mom and dad want to be told to their children. No voice overs, automated messages, green screens or fake beards! What your child will see on Christmas morning is the real deal! See for yourself:

Each DVD is customized specifically for your family, therefore, no two stories are alike! In fact, Santa even takes special requests for Spanish-speaking, military, and expat families and for the hearing impaired. With Christmas fast approaching, I urge you to place your order soon to ensure it arrives by Christmas morning. In five simple steps, you can make your Christmas morning even better! Hurry though, limited quantities are available!

Wordful Wednesday

A couple weeks ago I shared photos from my graduation (find them here). Well, this week I want to share some other fun photos from my trip. My husband and I began our trip by driving 4.5 hours away to my mom's house. When we arrived, my grandparents, who drove in from California, were there to greet us. Gosh my grandparents are amazing!!! They arranged their TX trip to coordinate with my graduation trip so they could watch my kids. That's love, huh?!

We arrived at my mom's house around 2 AM, so we (my mom, husband, & myself) decided to stay up to finish packing for our early morning trip. By 7:30 AM, we were on our way to good ole DFW airport and by 1:39 PM, we had arrived in Pensacola, FL. This is where the fun began!!!! We stayed at super cute vacation home that was close to a bay and an interesting little park area that was decorated with all sorts of pumpkin/scarecrows.
The next several days are kind of a blur due to our lack of sleep. In 3 1/2 days, we managed to visit 5 states!!! Here is a mashup of our trip:
I also want to share a video I captured with my amazing underwater camera. Apparently, the beautiful water in Pensacola is also the home to tons of jellyfish!

ZeroWater Pitcher Review

Most of us would like to believe that our tap water is safe, but just how safe is it? Now before you start freaking out, keep in mind that public water systems are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The unfortunate part is that no matter what rules and regulations are set by the EPA, your water will most likely contain some sort of containment(s).

Having said that, I am so glad that I was sent a 6-Cup ZeroWater Pitcher to review. According to the ZeroWater website, my local drinking water has a total dissolved solids (TDS) score of 232. Yuck! Even with the use of a filtration system, my water has always tasted a bit off. Seeing the TDS score makes me realize why! There is hope though...
The newly designed 6-Cup pitcher has the same powerful filtration system from Zero Technologies which removes 99.9% of dissolved solids but in a new, convenient space-saving design that fits perfectly on desk or table. The one-hand pull-and-pour button spout makes it easy to fill any bottle or cup. To complement the sleek design, the pitcher has a new Filter Change Indicator that lights up when the filter is ready to be changed and an underneath water filter assembly to ensure that the water passes through the filter and not around it.

The pitcher is very easy to use and definitely results in great tasting water! In fact, ZeroWater is the only water filter that meets the FDA definition for TDS in purified water. Finally my water tastes like...well...nothing! That may be funny to read but I can't explain to you how refreshing it is to not have an aftertaste from my water. I would have to say that the most noticeable difference I discovered was in my coffee -- bye bye bitter taste, hello amazing cup of Joe! Overall, I am quite pleased with this system and will be purchasing a larger ZeroWater dispenser in the near future.

Buy It:
The ZeroWater 6-Cup Filter Pitcher can be purchased at or find other retailers here

Frugalicious Mommy Disclosure: ZeroWater provided me with their 6-cup pitcher for this review. I was allowed to keep the product, but the opinion I am sharing remains my own. No monetary compensation was received for this post.
